Shibori class info:
Shibori is an ancient Japanese technique of adding pattern to dyed fabric. Arashi Shibori, is a method of wrapping the textile around a pole and “scrunching” to acquire a pattern suggesting woodgrain. Allowing the silk to sit in a heated bath longer can bring some textures into play.
Participants will wrap silk scarves around a pole and immerse it all into a dyebath. After the silk has taken up the dye the scarves will be unwrapped to reveal the pattern.
Kippian (Kipp) Inglis is a local Lodi fiber artist, a long-time Washington, DC area transplant who moved to Wisconsin 4 years ago. She works primarily in wool and silk, but has a long history of sewing, quilting, and costume design. The wool and silk fibers and fabrics are hand-dyed using acid dyes, and coming soon, natural dyes (Eco-dying). Items are either stitched, most often utilizing hand sewing and embroidered embellishment, or felted. The beauty of the local fauna and flora influence her color and dye work. As she moves to experiment with local plants for dying the wool and silk, she will also be studying felt garment making this fall. She teaches local classes in felting and also in wool appliqué and embroidery. You can find her items for sale at local arts and crafts shows as well in Lodi at Sunfall On Main.
Class fee $50 includes everything you need to make a scarf, plus eats and drink and fun. Come in your artwork clothes, aprons provided.
